WORD
SPOKEN
During the time editing was being done on Internal Inferno, both Jennifer and Tymn recorded quite a few of their pieces, adding music and sound effects to enhance the listening experience. These recordings they refer to as enhanced poetry. Street beat. Challenging, sometimes erotic, observational, sometimes argumentative or just angry; they have both recorded and written pieces that would be censored or even banned in over 20 states. They found themselves collaborating on quite a few new pieces that became known in the studio as ‘duets poetry’. They have recorded a collection of these collaborations that they anticipate releasing this fall 2024. With their spoken (and written) word, they seek to inspire hope, acceptance, empathy, justifiable anger against prejudice and hatred, and support those of us who swim against the tide of conformity, boredom and ennui.

ANOTHER KIND OF RAPUNZEL
For years she sat in the tower
And often walked over stars
New and those forgotten
She chose who to let climb up her hair
But few got a second attempt.
She ruled her roost with what
She thought was an iron fist
But was really a experiment in avoidance
And solitude.
No one knew her secrets or her regrets.
And so she viewed the lightning
Danced to the thunder solo
A midnight banshee with a turn of a phrase
A warrior without a battle for a while
Riding a train that had no stops.
She convinced herself this was brave
To tackle all that happens alone
Showing a mirthfully stoic demeanor to most
Only a few got behind the mask
And even those she edited.
And then one day someone scaled the wall
No invitation or pulling of the hair
Just an arrival so delightful and terrifying.
A challenge to all she had carefully constructed
And reinforced with a cowardice none
recognized
But her own self.
So she considered and mulled and paced the room
She pondered and wandered through the space of her
Always racing mind. And the nightmares,
Once one of her few constant companions
Now took up residence in a corner
Farther away and less accessible.
It was a change both beautiful and terrifying.
And now, buoyed by words, music
And possibilities once thought lost
She’s unlocked the hidden door to the tower
Offering more access than ever before
She no longer wishes to compromise
Or settle for less than the best of the lightning.
